As jedi we are take on the role of guardians and advisers however we all need to decide what areas of interest we posses and how we can best assist those around use.
In the Extended Universe the Jedi Order had its place, however in the real world we do not have this pleasure and odds are that will not be changing any time soon. Jedi need to figure out how they can apply their Jedi training into their everyday lives. Some Jedi who wish to walk the jedi guardian path may prefer to follows a career in law enforcement fire fighting, private security or something of that nature. Jedi healers may enjoy a career in the medical field such as being a EMT, Doctor, Nurse, ER assistant or one of the other fields in the health care system.
Although I may have only discussed a couple of the paths jedi healers or jedi guardians may wish to follow however there are many other careers for potential JEDI to follow. This section will discuss the Areas of jedi specialty paths.
Jedi Guardians
Jedi Guardians have the same basic training as other jedi paths, however guardians focus more on the security then other jedi may prefer. Those who follow the guardian path are more apt at physical confrontations and need to train beyond the basic self defense program required for all jedi knights. Do to the likelihood of physical conflict JEDI guardians need to train two or more martial art disciplines. Jedi guardians need to work on their ground defense and joint locks as much as they do on their stand up skills. Personally I would recommend keeping within the same national training if possible such as bujinkan, kickboxing, karate or jujitsu. Please be mindful that the style of jujitsu is not the same as the later variation of it that is known in the cage fighting circles of cage fighting or MMA for a better looking name that seems more pleasing to popular culture.
Jedi Healers
Some people are foolish enough to think that JEDI Healers can not defend themselves or others however this line of thinking is complete foolishness. I am a jedi healer and I will step in physically to defend others when the need is there. Personally I believe as a jedi healer I am even more proficient in self defense due to my understand of pressure points and basic knowledge of the human body. All jedi need to be first responders but in some ways first responder training is a bit incomplete. First responders are great with CPR, but first aid may be incomplete depending on how teaches the course. Jedi healers deepen their knowledge in first aid so they will be ready to offer basic first aid as the situation presents itself. Most jedi healers also train in energy healing systems such as qigong or reiki. A jedi healer does not use energy healing for money instead they do energy Healing because they can.
Jedi Councilors
In my opinion this is actually the least likely used of the jedi paths in the real world. We all offer counseling and advice to others but doing this in a professional aspect to aid the government or military is extremely unlikely unless you are already in a government or military position. As jedi we can always offer advice and council people in areas such as neighborhood watches and so forth which in my opinion is the most likely the highest level many councilors will be able to use their skills and abilities.
Jedi Sentinel
Jedi sentinels are those who focus on two or more of the jedi paths and in reality the path many of us follow. The sentinel is not as skilled as a jedi who focuses purely on one path but they are the most useful into today’s world. More often than not jedi today see the sentinel path as a combination of guardian and councilor but as this is not necessary the only aspect of it. Again I may consider myself a jedi healer, however since I follow the martial arts as strongly as I follow the healing arts I am more of a sentinel than I am a healer. I am not as skilled as those who focus purely on the healing arts and I am certainly not as powerful as a person who only focused on the guardian path. I have a understanding of some joint locks, chokes and defending myself against them, however a person who has a black belt in jujitsu would certainly be able to work past my guard in a pure jujitsu match. In martial art training the best reflection of the instructor is their students so with the students I have I am extremely proud of how well they have taking my teachings as well as advanced themselves with training in other areas I did not focus on. The real joy of being a jedi master is watching the student one day out grow you because this means the class of jedi will continue getting better and better.
Jedi Teachers
I will admit the best way to train jedi is a one on one situation. The master/student relationship is extremely important and it allows the master to watch and test the student at all times. The student gets to watch the master in all situations and see how the master walks the path instead of just talking about it. The fictional universe jedi padawan were trained in the way for the old republic and towards the later days of the New Jedi Order, but in today’s world this not always the case.
When I started the jedi path I had to break from the tradition and step up and teach three potential jedis at one time. I was always there for my students, however I could not develop the same level of student/master relationship. I did not careless for my students and I did all the same responsibility but the relationship with my students was not as close then master/student relationship. Now when we accept new potential jedis into our group the jedi knights/masters who are wanting to teach work with the potential jedi for one month. During that time we teach the potential what is in our jedi handbook, as well as share our own thoughts with the potential jedi. After each of the leading 3 people who want the chance to take on the potential jedi they discuss the potential jedi and figure out who the person responded to the best, and who has a path more similar to the path the potential jedi seems more likely to follow. After everything is taken into account one of us will then take on the potential jedi as a student and guide them to jedi knighthood. Normally after six months of one on one training the potential jedi is prepared to take on the role of jedi knight and from there start focusing on their own perspective path. The jedi attached to the potential jedi may or may not lead them on that path. If however the knight/master attached does not take direct charge over the jedi specialty path they still do remain in the new jedi knights life and are always a guide for them for as long as they are both still alive.
On the internet a great number of sites want to use the master/student relationship, and in many respects they do believe what they are saying, however this is not the same as the true master/student relationship. On the internet the Masters do in fact share their knowledge with the potential students however they are not there to walk the person the exercises and practical training. The student can not watch the master in their daily life’s and see how the master acts, and what the master does. So in truth these jedi are jedi instructors. If you are part of a site that uses the master/student way of training do not think that I am disrespecting or taking anything away from how you are doing things. Truth be told being a online instructor is actually harder then the master/student relationship will ever be. We need to post our knowledge and share everything we can while hoping the student takes our teachings and really apply them into their own lives. We can ask questions to check the understanding however this is not the same of watching the student grow and observing how well they are taking our teachings.
A last aspect of jedi instructors is for the older jedi who can no longer walk the physical path as good as they once did. Once a jedi reaches the point where they are not as physically effective as they used to be we can not just put them out to pastor and call it good. The older jedi or the broken JEDI have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share and acting as jedi instructors gives the next generation a chance to gain from the wisdom of the last generation.
